FLETCHER - This is a special day for us in the Miami East Community and especially for the friends and family of Cailyn Walker. They now have the opportunity to honor Cailyn in a place where she spent so much time of her young life. The Viking community suffered a great loss on August 16th, 2019 when 11 year old Cailyn Walker tragically passed in a car accident. She was a gifted soccer and softball player, but more importantly, she had a smile and spirit that could melt your heart. Cailyn, and her two sisters, Cassidy and Courtney, were part of the MEJRDS organization starting when they were young. More notable, her parents, Chad and Cindy Walker, served on the organization’s board for many years, so Cailyn could always be seen at the fields.

The goal of the memorial is simply to have a place where Cailyn can be remembered and honored by many little ball players and Vikings to come, regardless if they knew her or not.

The memorial consists of a bronze plaque that was paid for by donations made in Cailyn’s honor over a year ago. By this time last year, MEJRDS had over 300 registered participants; unfortunately, due to COVID, the season had to be cancelled. Many of those participants choose to donate their registration fee refunds towards the purchase of the bronze plaque. The memorial also includes large rocks that came from a local farm with the transportation of these rocks being provided by Ritter Pipeline (Burton Wingate).THANK YOU ALL!
