#KeriOn 5K Run/Walk Set for May 16 in Piqua
PIQUA - 17-year-old Keri Marion-Davey is just like any other teenager. She loves spending time with friends, enjoys serving her community through her part-time job at McDonald’s and is dreaming of a bright and successful future. But Keri is facing a daily battle that most teenagers don’t even think about – Keri is fighting a Glio type tumor called Astrocytoma, more commonly known as brain cancer.
Keri is a senior at Piqua High School who had a brain mass discovered on January 27, 2021. Following extensive testing and procedures, including a risky brain surgery, the mass was confirmed an in operable, cancerous tumor on March 19, 2021. Keri is currently preparing for her own marathon – one that will include extensive cancer treatments and additional surgeries.
With these treatments and adversities ahead, Keri’s employer and her community have come
together to organize a 5k run/walk to help with her medical expenses. The event, #KeriOn 5k Run/Walk, will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 16 at Piqua High School.
“Keri has been a shining light in our organization in only the short time she’s been with McDonald’s,” says Benny Scott, Keri’s employer, and local McDonald’s Owner/Operator. “You would never know Keri is going through a cancer battle when you meet her – she’s got such a positive outlook on life and makes everyone who’s around her smile.”
Keri will not be able to run in the 5k, but she will be there to help cheer on those who are running/walking to support her.
“I have run in multiple charity 5k events and love helping others, but I never thought I’d be the one people are running for,” says Keri Marion-Davey. “I appreciate all the support everyone has shown me, and I know I have a team of people who are on my side and I can’t thank them enough.”
The support team Keri has around her have been using the hashtag #KeriOn to show support for her battle with brain cancer. The organizers are asking race participants and other supporters to use #KeriOn on their social media channels to help raise awareness for the person Keri is and show support for her cancer battle.
