Black History & Culture Walk First Friday Returning to Downtown Troy

TROY – Troy Main Street invites families to downtown Troy on Friday, February 3 for an educational and engaging evening at their second Black History & Culture Walk First Friday. The event will take place that evening from 5:30-8:00 PM.
“Troy Main Street is looking forward to engaging the community in this event where participants will learn about Black History and Culture through education and entertainment,” said Andrea Keller, Executive Director of Troy Main Street. “We are excited for this event to return to historic downtown Troy again this year. We hope everyone will come enjoy the activities planned!”
The Black History & Culture Walk First Friday will feature a Black History Info-hunt coordinated in partnership with the Troy Local History Library. The info-hunt will feature Black History specific to Troy and the Miami County area and will take place throughout downtown Troy.
To start the Info-hunt, participants can stop at the Troy Main Street table located inside of Pop-up @ 4 W. Main to pick up an answer sheet and directions. Participants with the highest number of correct answers will be entered into a drawing to win a prize basket provided by Troy Main Street. Three performances will take place throughout the night at the Troy-Hayner Cultural Center. At 6:00 PM local favorite, Mrs. Stafford, will tell stories of her life growing up in the South and her journey to become an educator. At 6:30 PM Kane Feltner and Mrs. Loretta Phillips will provide a musical performance including singing and playing the saxophone. At 7:00 PM a tap dance demonstration will take place. Additional organizations including the Lincoln Community Center, IDEA Troy’s Juneteenth Committee, and the City of Troy’s Human Relations Commission will also be set up inside of Pop-up @ 4 W. Main with information about their respective organizations and how residents can get involved.
