
17 West - A Crowning Achievement of Flavor in New Bremen
NEW BREMEN - 17 West, an upscale restaurant in New Bremen, was opened to cater to employees and business guests at Crown Equipment Corp., which is headquartered in the picturesque downtown in rural Auglaize County.
Luckily, the public is also able to enjoy the flavors and atmosphere at the restaurant, including its signature menu, a quaint outdoor patio, a large and diverse wine menu, craft beers and (when possible) weekly entertainment.
Located at 17 W. Monroe St., the restaurant is housed in an old hotel that features Victorian architecture on the outside and an eclectic/historic atmosphere on the inside. The long, wooden bar is definitely a highlight.
The outdoor patio sits next to Lock One Park and is not far from the Bicycle Museum of America and the Miami & Erie Canal, all of which are free to visit and make great additions to any trip to New Bremen.
The menu at 17 West offers a variety of gourmet items, including seafood, steaks and chops dinners, plus a number of tasty appetizers, sandwiches and salads. Each is created to be unique and flavorful. Some of the highlights include: Chicken Piccata, Bremen Burger, the 17 West Signature Salad, Porterhouse Peach Pork Chop, Lamb Loin Chop and, pictured above, the Crab Cake BLT.
The BLT is a jumbo lump crab cake with fried green tomatoes, chopped bacon, bonfire aioli and mixed greens served with hand-cut french fries. The price is a modest and well-worth-it $14.
Crab is also featured in the restaurant’s Seafood Salad, Shrimp and Crab Scampi and the Roasted Red Pepper & Smoked Gouda Soup appetizer.
Seafood lovers might also try the Citrus Soy Salmon, Sea Scallops and Pan Seared Halibut, among other highlights.
Vegetarians can enjoy Vegetable Stir Fry, Garden Alfredo and a number of appetizers and salads. Each meal is started with a selection of breads and two specialty butters.
17 West is open 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday; and 4-9 p.m. Saturday. Live music is offered from 7-9 p.m. on Wednesdays and Thursdays during the summer.
